Add geolocation to your FOAF profile [Feb. 2nd, 2006|05:03 pm]

Where are you?inFOAF

Here’s another small FOAF related application that we would like to show you.

You can add Geolocation (lat and long) to your FOAF profile. You only have to enter a City/Country and that’s it!</p>
For instance, if you type “Barcelona, SPAIN”, you get:

<rdf:RDF

xmlns:rdfs="http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#"

xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"

xmlns:foaf="http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/"

xmlns:geo=”http://www.w3.org/2003/01/geo/wgs84_pos#”>

(…)

    <foaf:based_near geo:lat=’41.4′ geo:long=’2.17′ />

(…)

</rdf>

FOAFING THE MUSIC [Sep. 30th, 2005|05:58 pm]
FOAFING THE MUSIC

-- the next generation of music recommenders --

http://foafing-the-music.iua.upf.edu

FOAFING THE MUSIC [1] is the first music recommender system based on user's profile. This means that, depending on what you like, what you listen to, where you live, you get personalized music recommendations.

FOAFING THE MUSIC makes use of information available on other websites (in the form of thousands of RSS feeds) to recommend you music that you'll love!

The system uses the vocabulary created in the Friend of a Friend (FOAF) project [2] to define user preferences. The FOAF project is about creating a Web of machine-readable homepages describing people, the links between them and the things they create and do.

Moreover, the system gets noticed of your listening habits (using your last.fm account and the Audioscrobbler plugin [3]). This way, you're always discovering new and exciting music, based on the music you listen to.

Then, based on your user profile and your listening habits the system recommends you:
* Artists similars to the ones you like
* New music releases from your favourite and recommended artists (from sources such as: iTunes, Amazon, Yahoo shopping and the like)
* Related MP3-blogs to download
* Podcast sessions to stream/download
* Automatic creation of playlists based on acoustic and musical similarity calculated from the audio
* Incoming concerts near your city
* Artists' related news

Last but not least, if you have a Webjay account [4], you can even play your playlists in our music player, and view related playlists from other users.

So, visit us at http://foafing-the-music.iua.upf.edu and create and account or, at least, try our demo!

Keep foafing the music,

Oscar.
